How it Works

Dave Winfield

Major League Baseball Hall of Famer
Request–
A book that explained to parents how best to prepare their kids for Major League baseball.
Process–
After conversations with Dave, it became clear that he was passionate about sharing ideas on helping baseball regain its stature as America’s National Pastime. We put together a book plan that addressed all of baseball’s constituencies—owners, players, fans, the commissioner’s office, as well as parents.
Result–
Dropping The Ball, a six-figure deal with Simon & Schuster, and a national bestseller.

Pat Summerall

NFL Broadcasting Legend
Request–
Create a new memoir for the NFL broadcasting star.
Process–
We recognized that Pat was the only player in history to be coached by NFL greats Tom Landry and Vince Lombardi…in the same season.
Result–
Giants: What I Learned About Life from Vince Lombardi and Tom Landry, published by Wiley, and beloved by football fans.

Howard Bragman

Top Hollywood Publicist
Request–
Howard, who has worked with everyone from Sinatra to Madonna and beyond, wanted to capture his process and share it with businesspeople who needed to understand public relations.
Process–
We came up with a ten-step approach to gaining publicity for small to medium sized businesses.
Result–
Where’s My Fifteen Minutes?: Get Your Company, Your Cause, or Yourself the Recognition You Deserve, a national bestseller published by Penguin

Doug and Jackie Christie

NBA Stars
Request–
The Christies wanted to rehabilitate their reputations, which had taken a beating because Doug did not fit with the NBA’s “bad boy” image. They needed the book in six weeks.
Process–
We conducted interviews in a day and a half, wrote the entire manuscript in a week, and had it edited, vetted by attorneys, and published in hardcover within six weeks.
Result–
A national bestseller that enabled the Christies to follow their dream, developing outstanding, attractive, low-income housing in their native Seattle.

Zig Ziglar

Beloved Motivational Author and Speaker
Request–
Zig’s last book was also to be his son, Tom’s, first book. The manuscript was complete, but needed an extra polish.
Process–
As a long time admirer of Zig’s, Michael wrote a comment letter on the manuscript that unlocked more of Zig’s great stories and took the manuscript to a higher level.
Result–
“Thank you, Michael Levin, for making my best work even better.” —Zig Ziglar

Tate Groome

Financial Services
Request–
Create a book that would make a complex approach to insurance both understandable and desirable for high net-worth individuals and families.
Process–
We interviewed Tate, gained an understanding of his approach to insurance, and created a book, The Best Policy, that has positioned Tate as the leading authority in his field.
Result–
“Writing a book with Michael Levin has been the single biggest accomplishment of my professional career and has elevated me to an elite status in my industry I couldn’t have reached so quickly without your help.” —Tate Groome

Gary Kadi

Consulting, NextLevel Practice
Request–
Create a book that would position Gary as the foremost consultant to dental practices.
Process–
We identified a seven-step process by which Gary transforms dental practices, to optimize patient care, team member satisfaction, and net income.
Result–
Million Dollar Dentistry, which has sold more than 50,000 copies worldwide, and has helped Gary develop a $10 million consultancy.

Rená Puebla

Entrepreneurship
Request–
Create a book with three goals—position Rená as the leading authority in the field of high-level event planning in Southern California; drive business to her firm; and launch her career as a consultant and speaker in her field.
Process–
We worked with Rená to identify what makes her unique and highlighted those points of differentiation in the book, while at the same time providing a roadmap for people interested in entering the field.
Result–
Creation of thought leadership stature, a meaningful boost in income, and a new career as speaker and authority.

Tim Patten

Ghostwritten Novel
Request–
Tim came to us with a desire to tell a nonfiction story about malfeasance in a $100 million family business.
Process–
We proposed instead telling the same story as a novel, in order to attract a broader audience and avoid any risk of legal action.
Result–
Money, Family, Murder, an intensely enjoyable full-length mystery novel that met Tim’s goals while at the same time protecting the privacy of all concerned.

Nealy Fischer, The Flexible Chef

Book Proposal
Request–
Create a book proposal that would get a high dollar deal with a major publishing house for Nealy Fischer, a YouTube celebrity chef based in Hong Kong.
Process–
We interviewed Nealy at length and created a book proposal—a selling document used in order to get deals with major houses—that reflected her unique personality, approach to healthy cooking, and her beautiful family.
Result–
A sizable deal with Hachette leading to the raising of her brand on an international level.

Gary Albrecht

Coaching
Request–
Gary had written a novel, but knew it was not quite everything it needed to be.
Process–
We provided a full-length comment letter—our letters typically run 25 to 50 pages—laying out everything he needed to do in order to maximize the quality and readability of his novel.
Result–
A highly successful publishing debut. In Gary’s words: “Michael’s philosophy for you as a writer is based on an objective judgement from the experiences he has had as a writer himself, which is, as he says —“the story chooses you.” When I heard him say that, I remembered that our thoughts are greater than what we perceive them to be.

The next absorbing thing about Michael is that he understands the need for books to have an appeal for the television and movie market, as well as aspiring writers learning from the great writers of the past. Michael is an intellectual without sounding complicated.”

— GARY ALBRECHT, TOKYO

Michael Levin is a discerning and kind writing coach who has won consistent plaudits from the many persons I’ve sent his way.”
